This development of town houses, on the corner of Salt Box Lane and Penistone Road, is on land where the Grenoside Council Offices once stood and whilst these town houses are fine looking buildings they are no match for the Council Office Building. Finger Post Sign, Grenoside Crossroads, Grenoside, Sheffield
This lovely 'finger post' sign stands on the corner of Salt Box Lane and Penistone Road at Grenoside ... Yorks W.R. stands for the West Riding of Yorkshire. The County of Yorkshire was originally 'split' into North, West and East Ridings until the 1970s when they changed to North, South and West Counties.

Old Milestone, on the A61, Penistone Road, Grenoside
45m N of junction of Saltbox Lane, Halifax Road and Wheel Lane. Located on the East side of road, behind green metal railings 20m from traffic lights. Cast iron post, 19th century.
Inscription reads: SHEFFIELD / 4 / MILES // PENISTONE / (9) / MILES
