The Methodist Chapel in Bradwell
Non-conformism came to Bradwell about 1738. Initially, services were held in houses or barns. In 1747 and again in 1765 John Wesley preached to a large crowd in Towngate. The first Chapel, built in 1768, is now a cottage. The Wesley Chapel, built in 1807, was large enough to accommodate the whole village. It was constructed and paid for by men and women as a religious duty for the Methodist cause. The work left the trustees with a burden of debt for over sixty years. In 1891 the Chapel was renovated, and the debts finally paid off.
