Laocoon or a scene from Alien
A sunken lane in Aston, near Bamford, where the tree roots are exposed and the soil will continue to be eroded from the horizontal strata of the shale. Basically, one day it will fall down. Laocoon was a Trojan priest whose tale was told in Vergil's Aeneid, as well as by earlier Greek writers, including Sophocles. Laocoon and his two sons were killed by serpents after he offended the gods, the offence being to expose the ruse of the Trojan Horse. The statue, by an unknown sculptor, is in the Vatican Museum. The roots reminded me of the coils of the serpents as they killed Laocoon and his sons. The alternative is to think of the nasty thing in Ridley Scott's film "Alien".
