Steam turbine, Bamford Mill
This little gem has been scrapped and its room is part of an apartment now. The round casing just left of centre is a Greenwood & Batley De Laval impulse turbine. In the middle is a high ratio reduction gear (the De Laval is very fast) and in the right foreground is the driven dynamo (DC of course) with its commutator and brush gear extreme right. In the left background is the condensing plant with a jet condenser and DC motor driven reciprocating air pump. This was a large example of the breed and its loss is a great shame.

Bamford Mill (now apartments)
Compared to my earlier photograph the most obvious difference is the loss of the chimney. This was a striking feature of the mill and its loss is a shame.
