Merrill Cottage, Townhead, Eyam
The home of Humphrey Merrill, the herbalist in Eyam at the time of the plague Image The inscription reads: Humphrey Merrill the village herbalist died here in September 1666. His wife Anne survived. Andrew Merrill also lived here. He survived the plague by going to the edge of Eyam Moor and building a crude hut in which he lived with his pet cockerel until the plague was over
