Glebe Mines at Cavendish Mill
Glebe Mines say they are the only producer of indigenous fluorspar in the UK. It's far from clear which is the public road through the site and the unofficial road sign doesn't help much.

Working at Cavendish Mill
The only fluorspar workings in Britain is due to close in December 2010. The works are owned by Glebe Mines, which was bought by a French company in 2007, and then in 2010 by a Mexican firm. Glebe have permissions to continue the mining, but that requires investment; this is not forthcoming. Fluorspar is used, inter alia, for toothpaste, mobile phones and hospital equipment. 60 jobs will be lost.

Footpath arriving at Cavendish Mill
The sign suggests the official route is through the puddle to the left. The road to the right is guarded by hoses used for squirting at quarry vehicles, but this route was the safer option on this day.
