Old Milestone, on the A618, Mansfield Road, at Wales Bar
Located on the West side of road, on verge next to path at side of road, in front of factory. Metal plate attached to stone post, Brayshaw & Booth casting design, 19th century. Inscription reads: ROTHERHAM / 7 MILES // MANSFIELD / 16¼ MILES / PLEASLEY / 13¼ MILES / CLOWN / 5¾ MILES // ROTHERHAM & PLEASLEY / ROAD / WALES // BRAYSHAW & BOOTH / MAKERS / LIVERSEDGE Grade II listed by Historic England. see https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1151913 Milestone Society National ID: YS_RMPL07

Old milestone
The most southern of the West Riding CC 1893/94 stones set up by the family firm of Gill & Frank Stead of Mirfield who were awarded the contract. The previous submission is a photograph actually taken in 1992. The Rotherham to Pleasley turnpike of 1764 had 7 main gates. This stone is at Wales Bar where the road leaves Yorkshire and goes into Nottinghamshire. It is Grade II listed 335865.
