Mudfords Building
The building, bearing a date of 1915, stands separate but close to other derelict buildings Image Image The ground floor had been a furniture shop - see Image It looked unlikely to reach its century.

Mudfords Building - side
The building, bearing a date of 1915, was formerly a furniture store as can be seen from one of the adverts on the side. The other, more recent, encouraged trade to the Castle Market but in vain - by 2012 it had closed apart from a handful of open air stalls.

Sheffield: looking up Exchange Street
The eastern part of this segment of Exchange Street is a minor cul-de-sac, while the western pedestrianised bit goes through Image Mudford's Building, right, and its neighbour the Market Tavern, have been unoccupied for many years. (See Image)

Sheffield markets: the end is nigh?
When Chris Downer submitted his photo Image in 2008 he described the Castle Market as "thriving". Four years later it was closed, the steps to the upper level barricaded off (but still stinking of urine) and despite the "to let" sign (left of photo) I doubt that anything other than demolition and redevelopment awaits it.
