When I 'were a lad' there were two passenger and two goods lines passing through here, and it wasn't bright red! One of the goods lines terminates behind the station building on the left. Just down the line in the distance (looking north-west) was the end of the Sheffield - Manchester - Wath 1500V DC electrified system that ran through the now disused Woodhead Tunnel.

Woodhouse railway station, Yorkshire, 2008
Opened in 1875 by the Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway on the line from Sheffield to Lincoln, this station replaced an earlier 1849 one at Woodhouse Junction, some 500m behind the camera position. View north west towards Darnall and Sheffield. Comparing this to a 1964 photo from the same spot, surprisingly little had changed at the time this image was taken. There was a signalbox at the near-end of the left-hand platform, there were semaphore signals, there was an older lattice footbridge, and there appears to have been a siding around the back of the right-hand platform.
