Black Swan Walk in Sheffield City Centre
Just metres away from Sheffield's busiest thoroughfare is this quiet alley, which despite its proximity to Fargate (and unlike bustling Chapel Walk which runs parallel to this walkway) is empty of commercial premises and footfall alike. There is an old iron tram rail and turning circle which can be seen next to the green bin in addition to lots of nice architectural features on the buildings including stained glass windows, stone cornices and pediments and the curved Flemish gable in the centre of picture. Despite its name I believe the pub that existed most recently in this yard was called the White Bear not the Black Swan and despite passing this alleyway entrance on hundreds of occasions it wasn't until a friend suggested we take a look yesterday that I paid it any heed. Surely this neglected historical enclave could be transformed into a great little independent shop and business arcade in the future?

16 George Street, Sheffield
Surprisingly old origins, 1793, when it was George's Coffee House, but largely concealed by C19th Italianate alterations. A Venetian Gothic extension on the right, 1906 by C. & C.M.E. Hadfield, which has some entertaining carved detail (Image]). Grade II listed. The Sheffield Banking Company took over in 1831, but now, I think, empty.
