Harry Brearley
A tribute to Harry Brearley on the side of the Howard Hotel in the centre of Sheffield. Brearley, became a symbol of innovation in the city when he invented the world’s first ‘rustless’ stainless steel, in 1913. The 42ft portrait was painted by local artist Sarah Yates.

The Harry Brearley Mural in Sheffield
Harry Brearley (18 February 1871 – 14 July 1948) was a Sheffield born metallurgist. He was awarded the Iron and Steel Institute's Bessemer Gold Medal in 1920 for essentially inventing stainless steel. The black and white artwork was commissioned by Marketing Sheffield in 2013 and created by local artist - Sarah Yates.
