Rain in Millennium Square
Three of the stainless steel balls in Image], outside Piccolino’s restaurant. The spheres, of which are there are nine in total, are water features designed the feature to symbolise the steel, craftsmanship, stonework and water which are symbolic of Sheffield’s industrial heritage. The Piece is called ‘Rain’ and is designed to evoke the falling of rain drops upon the ground, with the small pools at the base of each steel ball creating the ripple effect. Bears of Sheffield: #15 Quasar One
#15 of 61 big bear sculptures, this one was decorated by Tom J Newell and is located in St Paul's Place. Tom’s design for his Bear is an example of the hand-drawn artworks he is known for. His work often shows a ‘dark side’ and this detailed black and white Bear sculpture is striking in its contrasting design. Tom has chosen to name his Bear Quasar One, after the Sheffield born artist, Ramases’ song. For the single release of ‘Quasar One’ the record company misheard the title and released it as ‘Crazy One’. The B-side was called ‘Mind’s Eye’. So just as with his Elephant’s connection to The All Seeing I’s song, his Bear’s name ultimately has a deeper meaning.
