The Old Queen's Head, Pond Hill, Sheffield
The oldest surviving domestic building in Sheffield. The use of the building as a pub only dates back to 1840 but the building itself was built in 1475. It is believed that the original building was a washhouse. By 1800 it was being used as a residence and in 1840 was granted a licence to sell ale.

The block of flats in the background at the centre of the picture is to be refurbished. Currently it's hollow, with views through it to the hill beyond.

"The Old Queen's Head", Sheffield
"The Old Queen's Head" is the oldest domestic building in Sheffield. This timber framed building is thought to date from around 1475, although the earliest known written record of it is in an inventory compiled in 1582 of the estate of George Talbot, the 6th Earl of Shrewsbury that included the furnishings of this building, which was then called "The hawle at the Poandes".
As a part of the Earl's estate, it may have been used as a banqueting hall for parties hunting wildfowl in the nearby ponds. These ponds, which formed in the area where the Porter Brook meets the River Sheaf, are now gone, but are commemorated in the local names Pond Street, Pond Hill (formerly Pond Well Hill) and Ponds Forge.

Sheffield: the Old Queen?s Head
A fine, old pub providing great contrast to its neighbours, being hemmed in between the 60s Royal Mail office and the modern-day main bus station.
