Cutlers' Hall, Church Street, Sheffield
Given the significance of cutlery to Sheffield, unsurprisingly one of the city's major buildings. Built in 1832 to the designs of Samuel Worth and Benjamin Broomhead Taylor, and enlarged in 1888 by J.B. Mitchell-Withers (a pupil of Worth). His is everything to the right of the central entrance. The style is predominantly Greek Revival. Giant fluted Corinthian columns (Image]) and pilasters add monumentality, and above are ebullient coats of arms. The early C20th attic behind is "an unfortunate excrescence". Grade II* listed.

Sheffield: the Cutlers? Hall
The home of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire, which seeks to promote Sheffield's most famous manufacturing industry. It bought the plot, on Church Street, in the 16th century and this is the third hall to occupy the site, built in 1832. For a close-up of the coat of arms, see Image

The Cathedral Tram Stop
Sheffield "Supertram" number 120, in the old Sheffield Corporation blue and cream colours* rather than the usual Stagecoach livery, pauses to pick up passengers at the Cathedral tram stop. *This tram was repainted in these colours to mark the 50th anniversary of the closure of Sheffield's original tramway.

Sheffield Supertram - tramway construction in Church Street (August 1994)
One of the tracks had been laid, but there was still work to do on the other, when photographed in August 1994. The overhead power lines were also missing. Church Street in April 2009, photographed from further back, but it shows how the tramway has been neatly fitted into the urban environment:- Image
