Grey heron at Hangingwater
In one of the old millponds that are fed by The Porter Brook in Sheffield's Bingham Park. This fellow was patiently seeking nourishment. The grey heron is Britain’s most widespread predatory bird. It is solitary, until the breeding season, when herons often come together in large colonies. Some herons are resident, some leave for the winter and some overwinter here from northern Europe.
