Rivelin Valley from Bell Hagg
W. E. Smith painted a view of the Rivelin Valley from the top of Bell Hagg near here. His view, with the rock outcrop in the foreground is now hidden by trees. W. E. Smith's painting is displayed on the Art UK's web site at https://artuk.org/discover/artworks/rivelin-valley-sheffield-72574/view_as/grid/search/keyword:w-e-smith-1214639/page/1. Walking by a mill dam in The Rivelin Valley
This particular mill pond was associated with metal working industry connected with Wolf Wheel. Wolf Wheel was built in the early 1720s. The grinding room was probably the largest in the valley, and was used for grinding cutlery and razors. It was last recorded being used in 1930.

Wolf Wheel Millpond in The Rivelin Valley
A fallen tree is reflected in the still waters of what was once a reservoir from which stored water was directed to power The Wolf Wheel - once one of several sources of water power in The Rivelin Valley - formerly home to numerous metal working enterprises.

Reflections in a mill pond in The Rivelin Valley
A bit of an optical illusion here - caused largely by the stillness of the water in conjunction with an overarching dead tree.

Wolf Wheel Mill pond
The River Rivelin once powered twenty mills, one of which was fed by this pond. Wolf Wheel Mill was built around 1722 and had one of the largest wheels in the valley. The mill was in regular use until 1918.
