The Shiny Sheff, Crimicar Lane, Sheffield - 1
Named after HMS Sheffield, a Town Class Light Cruiser built in 1936 ... two other ships have also been named HMS Sheffield, but it is the former shown on the Pub Sign. Follow this link for more information ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Sheffield_(C24) ... Entrance Gates to Crimicar Lane Isolation Hospital
Infectious diseases such as tuberculosis were treated at this now demolished hospital, which a century ago would have been situated well away from Sheffield's main conurbation. A brass plaque attached to the central gatepost states that the hospital operated between 1901 and 1956.
