Another two rows of roadside terraced houses - http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2182561
These terraced houses and those in other streets are unusually not numbered from 1 or 2, but 5 and 6, or 7 and 8. I seems to me that the first few houses were demolished to make way for the shops that fronted the main road.

Horse & Rider - equestrian products, is the former Sheffield & Ecclesall Co-op. It was one of those Co-ops that had a cash office at the far end of the shop. The shop assistant would put your money in a metal container, pull a rope and the container would run along a wire to the cash office. Seconds later your change came back along the wire and the shop assistant would retrieve it and give it to you. You could join the Co-op and get dividend points. When the points were worth a fair amount you could cash them in for money off your purchases. Everyone who joined was given a unique number. My mother's was 72829.

The Bolehills, near Crookes
Not sure if this house is finished yet, but it seemed to have been 'on the go' for quite some time. Folks living up there have spectacular views of the Rivelin and Loxley valleys, but it's a bit draughty on this hillside when a westerly is blowing.

For all you Joe Cocker fans I can tell you that I sometimes saw him in here, having a meal after the pubs and clubs had turned out and he would be with his then girlfriend Eileen Webster and other friends.
The Fish & Chip Restaurant owner was a guy named Joe. "One-eyed" Joe, and if you met him, for obvious reasons. He ran the shop with his wife.
