This is Bingham's Potted Meat factory and it's been here as long as I can remember. Potted meat is a kind of pâté, I guess and I like it.

This is Bingham's, a potted meat factory. Seconds after the driver got out of the van, it started to run down the yard and he dived back in and stopped it. The factory has been here for years and years.

Back in the ‘50s there was a sweet/tuck shop here that sold such things as Flying Saucers, Nibits, Sherbert Dabs, Cherry Lips, Love Hearts etc. I think the shop was second from left, at 121.

Bingham's factory. There's an old saying in Sheffield, which when someone's getting a bit wishy-washy, is to tell them that they want rubbing down with potted meat. Well here's where it's made.

There used to be a way through to Cobden View Road from here. It was used for many years by the children of Western Road Comprehensive School and it makes me wonder how it was allowed to be blocked off. What happened to the Right of Way?

In the 1935 Kelley’s Directory for Rotherham and Sheffield, there is a gap here between no.s 162 and 174 Western Road. It’s quite possible that the Post Office and adjoining houses were built later on. I’ve always known the corner building to be a General Store and Post Office, since my schooldays.

Springvale Road runs down the hill towards Upperthorpe. Western Road runs across the picture.
