The Calcutta Club, Tilbury
This building used to house a lively social club called the Calcutta Club for many years. The club became defunct a few years ago, since when the building has slowly been sinking into decay. This eyesore is yet another important building, like the old post office [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1057081 ], on the main shopping road in Tilbury which has been allowed to fall to pieces.

Tilbury Market
This market takes place every Friday morning on the car park at the corner of Calcutta Road and Toronto Road. The building in the background is Dunedin House, a small three storey block of flats. The land on which the car park sits used to be grassed over and was used by the local children to play football on, before it was covered in tarmac about 20 years ago in worship of the Great God Car.

New Building on Calcutta Road, Tilbury
This was completed a few months ago, and is, I think, some sort of hostel or care home. It is located on the site of the old Workingmen's Institute (or "'Tute"), which was the heart of much of the social life in Tilbury for many years until it fell into desuetude a few years ago.

St Andrews Court, Tilbury
On Calcutta Road.
This was the site of a former church. It is now a large block of flats and a small local supermarket - Tesco Express.

The GPO in Tilbury
This grim monstrosity represents the General Post Office's contribution to the architecture of Tilbury (probably built in the early 60s). The block on the left is the old post office, empty and slowly decaying now for probably at least 10 years, when it was replaced by a new office in a converted pub (visible in http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/913545 ). The cream-fronted building to the right is the telephone exchange, which is still going strong.
