The church, Chadwell St Mary
At the crossroads of the fairly straight road from the north through Brentwood down to Tilbury Ferry, and an east - west route, again fairly straight, along the high ground north of the Thames. Locals have always taken the first route as Roman, although never proved as such. Both routes probably pre-date Roman times.
