D D Services
Garage in High Street. Although the building as a whole does not appear particularly old, the north wall is interesting - see Image A possible explanation is that old maps show a building here marked as a malthouse, and perhaps the wall is the part of this original building.

This building first appears on the 1935 1:2500 map, at the entrance to a sandpit that is shown on a number of earlier maps, suggesting that its present role is a natural development of past land use here.

Latter-day Book Store and A Plus Supermarket
A many times extended house on the corner of Salisbury Road and High Street, now including two very different types of shops - an off licence next to a mormon book shop is a bit of a contrast!

37 - 43 High Street
Row of cottages in High Street. The nearest one has a name plaque, Caves Cottage, presumably so called, like its neighbour (see Image), because of its position near the entrance to one of the many local mines.

White Swan House
The name commemorates the former role of the building as the White Swan Inn. Other former uses of this 18th century building were as the Godstone poor house, then as "dame school" (i.e. a private infants' school in which children were taught the 3 Rs by a woman in her own home) and later a lodging house. It became a pub in 1888 and ceased to be so in 1984. It is now used as offices. Locally listed.
