Station Road West, Oxted, Surrey
Sadly, due to a fatality, near Croydon, rail services were delayed by up to two hours. I took the opportunity for a few photographs in Oxted. This view, from the centre of the roundabout, looks towards Oxted Station; just visible at the end of the road.

Station Road West, Oxted
Photo taken on a very wet day in November.
Present day Oxted grew up following the arrival of the railway, and lies to the east of the original settlement, now known as Old Oxted. Station Road West appears to have been a single development, in mock-Tudor style, and much survives unaltered. It does not connect directly with Station Road East, so that although the station is a main focal point, the town remains divided by the railway. Traffic can cross from one half of the town to the other by way of Blue House Lane (some 200m NNW) or the A25 (maybe 330m SSE).

Shops, Station Road West, Oxted
Nothing is really old here in what was first called New Oxted, the whole settlement here was created when the railway came (quite late - 1884) and was just built to look old.

North side of Station Road, Oxted
Both sides of Station Road are in the attractive Tudor style so characteristic of twentieth century domestic and commercial buildings in Surrey. What is more unusual is that even the cinema is in this style.
