Hurst Green Junction
The electrified East Grinstead line from the left is joined by the unelectrified line from Uckfield. Featured in the middle is a switch diamond, used where there is a very shallow angle of crossing or where very heavy traffic would lead to rapid wear of an ordinary crossing. The first criterion would appear to apply here, marginally. Also seen on both outer tracks are slip joints in the rails, used at the end of long continuously welded sections of track. Both are bonded across the joints for continuity of track circuits, but curiously only the left one is structurally reinforced with bits of rail bolted across four sleepers.
