Low water levels in Fourwents Pond
The outflow from the pond has been deepened allowing the water level to drop prior to the removal of the fish population. Unfortunately the fish were doing a little too well threatening other elements of the pond's ecosystem. Why this is so important is that this pond is the home of a species of aquatic fern which is now extinct in many British counties: the Pillwort (Pilularia globulifera) http://www.plantlife.org.uk/uk/plantlife-saving-species-under-our-care-pilularia-globulifera.htm.
