Heritage Plaque, St Martin's Church
Plaque fixed to railings outside Image DORKING HERITAGE TRAIL ST MARTIN'S CHURCH Designed by Henry Wooyer and opened in 1874, this is the third church recorded on the site. Its short-lived predecessor, built in 1836, replaced a 12th century cruciform building with central tower. A church mentioned in Domesday, probably smaller and made of wood, is presumed to have occupied the same position. Since 1973 the church has been shared with the Methodists.
