Reigate Grammar School
A mixed independent day school for 11- 18 year olds; younger pupils are catered for by St Mary's School (see
Image).
It was originally founded in 1675. For many years, it came under St Mary's Church (see
Image), the headmastership being held by the vicar of the church. It became a grammar school in 1862, and the main school buildings date from then (although there has been much expansion since).
In 1944, it became a direct grant school, a status it held for just over 30 years before becoming fully independent again in 1976. Up to that point it had catered for boys only; girls joined in the sixth form from 1976, with the school becoming fully mixed in 1993.

Thomas Moore House
Thomas Moore was a local magistrate in the late 17th century who donated a field for use as a Quaker burial ground. A meeting place was subsequently built here. The current building, the third on the site, part of which is visible on the right of the photo, was built in 1984 with part of the land being used at the same time for a sheltered housing development, the main subject of the photo, appropriately named Thomas Moore House.
