Old School House, Church Road, Scaynes Hill
The first school in Scaynes Hill, opened in 1856, originally served a dual purpose as a school during the week and a chapel of ease on Sunday. In 1879 the school moved to this building with its former premises expanded to become Image It remained here for over a hundred years until it moved a second time to a new site on Vicarage Lane sometime in the early 1990s after which the old building was converted into a residence.

Pevsner (The Buildings of England- Sussex: Nairn,I./ Pevsner,N. Harmondsworth, Penguin, 1965 this edn 1977 ISBN 0140710280) tells us that this church was built in 1858 to a design by GR Habershon http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-495580-church-of-st-augustine-of-canterbury-lin and is built of red brick. The thin west tower has a pyramid roof and there are tall south facing dormer windows, those in the chancel being smaller.
