Chelwood Gate: the post office and postbox № RH17 96
A traditional little post office, unattached to a village store although it does sell stationery, cards and suchlike. Sadly it will close at the end of April 2010 – the postmistress has tendered her resignation because of the lower amount of remuneration she will receive from the Post Office Ltd. It is presumably not worth her while carrying on and does not bode well for the chances of someone else taking on the business. The postbox is a modern one, emptied finally at 4:30pm on weekdays and at 10:30am on Saturdays.
