The name of the field according to Balcombe's 1839 tithe map that is located in a long strip to the south of High Street, east of Crawley Lane and west of Monks Forest. It doesn't appear on an 1813 OS map so may have been cleared not long after.

Balcombe Down
The name given to the elevated area in the northern part of the parish that was once covered by Balcombe Forest. Monks Forest, originally part of the latter, is to the east of what is now a large field that was progressively cleared over the course of the 20th century.
