Summers Place, Billingshurst
Long and not particularly high, but cramming in the usual Victorian assemblage of gables, chimneys and turrets. Built of red brick and Bath stone, c1865. The listing describes the style as "mixed Neo-Gothic/French Renaissance". From the outside it looks more the former. Grade II listed. This was a convent for many years until the auction house Sotheby's took it over in 1984, but it now appears to be home to the possibly-related Summers Place Auctions while the house and/or parts of the grounds have been built up with new housing. The date of the photo is uncertain.

A fully-enclosed scaffolding tent goes on to the erstwhile home of Image to protect the house during the refurbishment works. The crane is about to lift the massive roof trusses. The development will convert the house into apartments with additional houses behind. Berkeley Homes will have their new southern headquarters here behind the old walled garden.
