Forest Grange, in the heart of St Leonards Forest, Near Horsham, West Sussex
Earlier maps (e.g. 1993) show this as the site of Forest Grange School. Later maps have dropped school from the name. It didn't looked like it was being used as a school at the time the picture was taken.

Pond on Higbirch Hill
The pond appears on the 1901 OS map; fed from a spring just off the Colgate to Bucks Head bridleway (TQ21933223). The 6" 1879 OS map shows no pond, just a stream. Without name, the pond is the source of the Holmbrook stream which flows into the river Arun at Amies mill (TQ18142914), just to the South of nearby Horsham.

Highbirch Gate
The bridleway from Colgate to Bucks Head heads south-west until at Highbirch Gate (which was about where the bench in centre middle is) turns due south for over a mile as Mick Mills Race. Gate, not unreasonably, means an entrance into a forest enclosure. Hatch means the same as in Colman's Hatch (TQ456339).

Seat on High Birch Hill.
Just where Mick Mills race turns to the north west is this seat. Giving on a clear day a view, south, through an avenue of trees to the distant South Downs. High Birch Wood is opposite, behind the signpost. The notice on the signpost advertises the Friends of St Leonard's Forest http://www.friendsofstleonardsforest.org.uk/
