Bucking the trend of small, local shops closing and being converted into houses this pharmacist is thriving.

Flour sack hoist
This hand-powered hoist was used to haul flour sacks up to the first floor store of Image The wooden lintel and the bricks above show the wear of decades of use. The window glass has been painted out black but in a careful manner so as to retain the appearance of normal windows.

3 Oakhill Road,Horsham, West Sussex
I had relatives living at no. 3, with the green door, and stayed with them at intervals from the age of 6 onwards, when for 6 months I attended the school in Clarence Road that was recently demolished.

Blatch & Shepherd, Bakers and Confectioners
This area of Horsham was developed in the late 19th century so this bakery (left) and shop (right) would have been built at the time. I don't know if the two businesses were associated then but it seems probable. The bakery has a first floor store complete with a roofed-over hoist for hauling flour sacks Image Sadly, this business closed in 2006 but the notices do not advertise the property for sale or rent. Addendum: Image began in late 2007.

Redevelopment of Blatch & Shepherd
The building to the left of the shop, which housed the bakery, appears to be having another skin added along with a new roof. The old model K6 telephone box has been replaced with a KX100 and moved beyond the boundary of the property. Also see Image before work began.

Former Railway Mission
In Oakhill Road, almost opposite Image, this chapel is now used as offices. The Railway Mission is a non-sectarian Christian society formed in 1881 specifically for those working on the railways and associated industries http://www.railwaymission.org/. This chapel was built in 1896 and still had a congregation in 1981 http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=18357 which is now dispersed.

Patricia's Florists
On the opposite side of Oakhill Road from Image I remember this florist being here in 1999. The signs advertise a "retail development opportunity" which, I suspect, means that the old shop front will be lost.

Corner of Oakhill Road and New Street
Now occupied by a gentlemen's hairdresser (barber shop). At the age of 6 I lived for 6 months opposite, at 3 Oakhill Road. Another submission shows this as being Patricia's Florists.
