Under the Railway Line
The path links a nature reserve, to an industrial estate, just north of Redhill. The bridge carries the London to Brighton railway line, with this (fast) line avoiding Redhill.

Footpath under Quarry Line
Footpath under the Quarry Line (the name given to the fast lines built by the London Brighton and South Coast Railway in 1899 avoiding Redhill station). Originally the path went straight on beyond the bridge, but following the development of the Holmethorpe Industrial Estate it now turns sharp right to meet Holmethorpe Avenue.

Railway yard, Holmethorpe, Redhill, 1990
British Industrial Sand had pits and processing plant through the arch under the main Brighton "Quarry Line" in the distance, and sand trains were handled in this yard by their locomotives. Two of these are on view, one with bushes growing around it, the other more recently used. Little or no sand traffic was handled in 1990, all of this has gone now.

The Kilns
Part of a major housing development on the site of the old Holmethorpe sand quarry, marketed as Watercolour, built over the first 15 years or so of the 21st Century. The large building on the left is 9 The Kilns, one of 3 apartment blocks in that road which were among the last buildings to be completed on the estate, in 2014. On the right is Acorn Court, a care home opened in 2008.

Industrial locomotive, Holmethorpe, 1990
British Industrial Sand had two locomotives, this is one of them. They were both 'Planet' locomotives by F.C. Hibberd, works numbers 3832 and 4006 of 1957 and 1963. This is the older one. Sand traffic had ceased, or at least nearly so, by 1990. Clearly this locomotive has not moved for some time. The other one was nearby, looking a little less disused. I don't recall there was anything of interest in the shed.
