The ghost of the King of Prussia
These two shops occupy what was once the King of Prussia public house. The two bow windows originally were bays windows running up from the ground floor with the pub's entrance between them. A photograph from 1912 shows that the building had by then become the home of the Carfax Club. At some time after that the ground floor bay windows were removed and a passageway knocked through (where Johnsons the Cleaners is today) to provide access to the Central Market behind. Horsham's Wimpy bar occupied the remaining ground floor space. The closing of the Central Market meant the passageway could be converted back for commercial use. To the right is Image

Copnall Way, Horsham
Horsham is a rather pleasant little town where I found myself parked up for the night in a lorry one bank holiday Monday evening. I walked into town to explore and get a pint and some geographs, and on the way I snapped this view with my work iPhone.

Medieval hall-house in the Carfax
This gable-ended building, currently Courtney Green Estate Agents, is the end of a medieval five-bay hall-house that was known as Heybourne's. This style of building was first recorded in Horsham in 1369 but this example is (probably) closer to the 16th century. The timber-framed bays can clearly be seen if you walk along Piries Alley (the doorway-shaped opening beneath the blind window at the right). The previous tenants were John Gorman, Estate Agents. This information is taken from 'Horsham Houses' by Annabelle Hughes so credit goes to her but any mistakes are almost certainly mine.
