County Oak Retail Park
A large retail park in the north of Crawley. Why County Oak? Before the 1974 local government reorganisation, the boundary between Surrey and Sussex crossed the Brighton Road here, and an old oak tree stood at the point, in what was once heathland. Because of its situation on the border, it was known as the County Oak, and was marked as such on maps. Whilst the tree is long gone, its name survives, even though the county boundary has now moved north of Gatwick Airport.

Crawley: Manor Royal: Thales chimney
Thales http://www.thalesgroup.com/uk/index.html are the second largest defence contractor in the UK. This brick chimney was on their Manor Royal site next to London Road. The chimney was demolished on 20 July 2009 and the other 1960s buildings shown were also demolished during 2009 to make way for Thales's re-development of the Manor Royal site.
