A carpet of floating pennywort in Foudry Brook
This invasive aquatic plant has formed a continuous cover on the surface of Foudry Brook alongside the new housing development at Kennet Island. The hoardings advertising the new houses are those seen in Image The difference in abundance of floating pennywort between the two pictures is clear.

Despite the pipes and the urban environment, Foudry Brook can be remarkably attractive in most parts. The yellow flower looks like escaped oilseed rape.

Foudry Brook, Reading
The flooded stream has taken on the proportions of a river beside the A33. A cycle track is usually available at the foot of the grass bank. The viewpoint is a bridge which gives access to the new Kennet Island development.

This is the busiest route into or (preferably) out of the town. The dual carriageway was built a few years ago to take traffic off the Basingstoke Road, now the B3031.
