Dating from 1760, the house later (1807 - 1827) became the home of Prime Minister George Canning. Another PM, William Gladstone, planted a tree in the garden. The house has been an arts centre since 1973. History on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Hill_Park Oscar Wilde's famous Lady Bracknell probably would have lived here had she been able to, but Oscar himself is commemorated by The Wilde Theatre, which opened here in 1984 with "Earnest" as the first show. The thing in the foreground here looks a bit like an old quarry grab or dredging tool but I could be wrong.
