Oakford Social Club garden, Reading
The rear 'garden' of the Oakford Social Club (which despite its name is actually a pub), in Reading town centre. Once upon a time this was the garden of the ICL Social Club (a real club, that), although the building to the left has extended over part of the original garden site. Even earlier than that, it was the back yard of Reading County Borough Education Office. Photograph taken from a fourth floor bedroom of the adjacent Malmaison hotel.

The Forbury, Reading
Looking along the short stretch of road linking Valpy Street and Forbury Road. The cars are travelling towards the station. The Rising Sun (Tut 'n' Shive) is dwarfed by the surrounding office blocks.

Apex Plaza, Reading
This large block of offices stands to the east of the station in Forbury Road. On a day like this the phrase sky-blue pink springs to mind.

Walter Parsons Corn Stores, Reading
Quirkily sandwiched between the offices that dominate the immediate vicinity with its colourful brickwork contrasting with the more mundane red. The warehouse was built in 1890. The entrance for carriages can be seen to the left. It now houses an Italian restaurant.

Forbury Road, Reading
A juxtaposition of the old and the new of Reading's town centre. Some might say there is rather too much of the new. The former corn stores were built in 1890, is grade II listed and is now home to an Italian restaurant.

Garrard Street, Reading
A view from the darkness of Garrard Street, which is overshadowed by a horrid concrete jungle, and into the light of the office district around the station and the western end of Forbury Road.

In the centre, the two-tone brick Blagrave arms pub. In the distance, right, the Brunel Arcade. Blagrave Street is on several bus routes.
