Former offices of the Berkshire Chronicle
The Dutch gable of this building in Valpy Street bears the inscription 'B.C. 1770', although it is a Victorian construction. The initials stand for Berkshire Chronicle, the date 1770 was when the newspaper was founded - in Wokingham. The paper was later renamed the Reading Chronicle, and its office and printing press were located here between 1891 to 1986. Information from Reading Museum website (link no longer available in July 2022).
Since this photo was taken, Chronicles bar has gone and there are different tenants on the ground floor.

Looking along the short stretch of road linking Valpy Street and Forbury Road. The cars are travelling towards the station. The Rising Sun (Tut 'n' Shive) is dwarfed by the surrounding office blocks.

This large block of offices stands to the east of the station in Forbury Road. On a day like this the phrase sky-blue pink springs to mind.

Walter Parsons Corn Stores, Reading
Quirkily sandwiched between the offices that dominate the immediate vicinity with its colourful brickwork contrasting with the more mundane red. The warehouse was built in 1890. The entrance for carriages can be seen to the left. It now houses an Italian restaurant.

Forbury Road, Reading
A juxtaposition of the old and the new of Reading's town centre. Some might say there is rather too much of the new. The former corn stores were built in 1890, is grade II listed and is now home to an Italian restaurant.
