Ainsdale Beach railway station (site), Lancashire
Opened in 1901 by the Cheshire Lines Committee on the line from Liverpool Central to Southport Lord Street, this station closed in 1952. It was known as "Seaside for Ainsdale" until 1912. View north along the former trackbed towards Birkdale Palace and Southport. The platforms would have been either side of where the cars are, in this image.

Lockhead Electra, Shore Road Roundabout
The model of the twin engined Lockheed Electra monoplane on the Shore Road roundabout was commissioned by Sefton Council Leisure and Tourism Services. It commemorates the “Daily Express Coronation” transatlantic flight made from nearby Ainsdale beach to New York in 1937. "Daily Express" was the name given to the plane. The plane was specially commissioned to shuttle back newsreel footage and photographs of the May 12, 1937 coronation of King George VI in London, and because of this, it also became known as the "Coronation Flight". http://www.southportvisiter.co.uk/2008/06/27/ainsdale-s-place-in-aviation-history-to-be-honoured-with-a-large-model-airplane-mounted-on-shore-road-roundabout-101022-21158598/ - - Southportvisiter(sic).co.uk 12 Nov 2009 http://www.southportvisiter.co.uk/southport-entertainment/news-reviews/2010/06/04/ainsdale-s-part-in-aviation-history-101022-26582637/ - Southportvisiter(sic).co.uk 4 June 2010
