Chorley War Memorial
As part of the peace celebrations to commemorate the ending of the First World War, a simple memorial consisting of a Celtic cross on top of a stone column and base was erected in its current position in early 1919 and dedicated to the fallen of the Borough.
Despite Chorley having suffered hundreds of casualties during the 20th century, no names were placed around the War Memorial. This was rectified in 2012 when the “Chorley Remembers” project http://www.chorleyremembers.org.uk/chorleywarmemorial/ obtained funding for 738 names to be inscribed onto 13 new limestone panels which were installed at the back of the existing memorial. The redeveloped memorial site and new wall was finished on Friday, 9th November 2012.

The Memorial Arch can be seen in the background to this photo. Close to the War Memorial, the Arch was erected at the Park Road entrance around 1923. It had previously marked the entrance to the Gillibrand Estate. Both structures were officially opened and dedicated at a civic ceremony on 31st May 1924.

Astley Park, War Memorial
Astley Park was donated to the people of Chorley in 1922 by its then-owner Reginald Tatton of nearby Cuerden Hall, as a memorial to the local men who were killed in World War I.

The "Falklands Stone" War Memorial at Astley Park
The Welsh Guards’ Stone was erected in 2004 by a local benefactor. It is located at the cenotaph in Astley Park and includes the names of those who died during the Falklands War in 1982, although no Chorley men are included on it.
The stone was repositioned in 2012 to make way for the limestone tablets which contain the Chorley Roll of Honour, to be erected behind the War Memorial.
