Preston, Fylde Junction
Taken from Pedder Street bridge, the tracks to the left of the relay room in the foreground are the West Coast main line from Carlisle and Lancaster and those to the right are the line from Blackpool. The building with the oversized hipped roof to the right is Preston power signal box, which controls the main line from Coppull, 11 miles to the south, to Carnforth, 27 miles to the north, as well as lines in a large part of central Lancashire. The tall red sandstone building in the centre background is Lancashire County Hall, close by Preston railway station.
