Tetrapods at Ventnor
Tetrahedral concrete structures known as tetrapods were developed in 1950 by Pierre Danel of Laboratoire Dauphinois d'Hydraulique as an solution to the problem of conventional rock armour, which can become dislodged over time. The arms of the tetrapods are designed to interlock, providing a more stable form of sea defence.

Coastal protection
These pyramid-shaped blocks of cast stone are placed semi-randomly against the sea wall to dissipate the force of the waves and reduce the risk of erosion. They remind me of the game of Jacks.
