Shanklin Station, August 1974
Even though the line beyond to Ventnor had closed in 1966, terminating trains still travelled beyond the end of the down platform and came back to collect passengers from the up platform as late as 1974. Here we see a train of 1924-vintage ex-Northern Line stock approaching the down platform on the wet Thursday before the August Bank Holiday weekend of 1974.

Arriving at Shanklin
The Island Line links Shanklin with Ryde, with two trains per hour. Nowadays, the train consists of just two carriages; however, on my first visit, back in 1974, the train consisted of at least four carriages.
