Houses and gardens on Egypt Hill
At about the steepest point on Egypt Hill, these new houses look out over the Solent. Their front gardens are densely planted with a multitude of brightly coloured flowers. Because of the wide angle needed, this image is two photographs joined together.

The New Holmwood Hotel, Queens Road
The New Holmwood Hotel, seen here in late evening sunshine, stands near the junction of Queens Road and Egypt Hill, close to Egypt Point. The ground floor lounge and restaurant windows afford good views across the Solent.

House near Egypt Point
I cannot find a name for this house, overlooking Egypt Point and therefore with a claim to be the most northerly house on the Isle of Wight. If I had to guess a date, I'd say mid to late 17th century.

Rosetta Cottage
It was here that Lord Randolph Churchill met Jennie Jerome, during Cowes week 1873. The significance of that event? They were the parents of future British wartime leader Winston Churchill, born in 1874. The building is now owned by the National Trust and let as two holiday cottages, with a view behind us over the central part of The Solent.
