Hamlet Court from the Esplanade
A non-designated heritage asset, Hamlet Court is a dilapidated and unoccupied property which is prominently situated on the Cowes Esplanade. The building dates from around 1832 but has been extended to link an adjoining property, principally in 1890, when the turret was added, and then in the 1950s when it was converted into flats. Now derelict and fenced off, it has an interesting history having originally been owned as Harriet Lodge by Lord Belfast, a flamboyant Irish yachtsman, and then later by Lord Dorchester, the first winner of the Queen's Cup, who renamed it Hamlet Court.
