Shambler's Wharf, Arctic Road, Cowes - pump
This shipyard had a beam engine driving a large slipway winch. It also had this small horizontal duplex non-rotative pump of the type pioneered by Worthington in the USA. I believe that like the beam engine this could still be worked by compressed air for draining sumps. The steam cylinders are on the right and the pump cylinders on the left.

Shambler's Wharf, Arctic Road, Cowes - slipway winch
Day, Summers winch with something like a 700 ton pull driven through reduction gears by the grasshopper beam engine in the background. Originally steam, latterly compressed air. The engine is with a museum/dealership in Kent.

Shambler's Wharf, Arctic road, Cowes - grasshopper beam engine
This was still in use on compressed air but only when needed to haul vessels up the slipway. Missed this by a day! Grasshopper engine by J P Almond, North Shields. Probably mid 19th century and installed probably second-hand in 1885. Removed in 1996.
