Crossing point off Leafy Lane, Whiteley
There are wooden safety barriers like this throughout Whiteley. They have the laudable aim of preventing pedestrians from rushing onto the roads. However, it was clear from the wear on the grass that most people walk around rather than through these zig zags, the human animal being an energy conserving system.

Entrance to Leafy Lane from Parkway, Whiteley
Parkway is the principal road through the Solent Business Park, and this road, Leafy Lane, looks like it leads to just another set of offices. However, in fact, it leads to a large area of housing situated in a variety of cul de sacs.

Electricity Substation, Whiteley
This converts 33 KV power from Botley Wood substation to 11 KV for distribution within Whiteley. Unusually, the transformers are walled in. The grey thing on the right is a radiator for cooling the oil of one of the two transformers.
