Forton Lake looking East, 2 August 2009
For my first submission in almost a year (and the first of what I intend to be many from now on) - a view of Forton Lake, looking East. This was one of about 100 photos I took during a day of fieldwork at the Lake, which was focused on recording the Minesweeper wreck I've shown in many of my submissions here.

Putting out the fire, Forton Lake
These wooden pontoons are often set alight by arsonists...here, a firefighter has just walked along the north shore from the bridge as there isn't another way to access this particular pontoon, and is in the process of putting out the fire. It died down quickly, but didn't completely "die off" until a few hours later. Things like these, I think, showcase just what the firefighters' job isn't - to be occupied with snuffing out a rotting pontoon, rather than be ready to assist with, say, a burning building. It does often strike me that whoever has the idea to start a fire in a place like this...isn't the brightest spark to say the least...

Fire (2) - before Fireman Sam arrived..
Exactly what it says on the tin - this was the aforementioned pontoon fire beginning to spread, before the firefighters arrived at around 5.30pm.

Looking West...maybe the bridge provides a bit of perspective here, I don't know.
